This will guide you through the creation of a map-based exhibit. It will guide you step-by-step to:
If you are using this tool online, please note that your content will not be saved after your browser session expires. You must download the .json at the end of creating the exhibit to preserve your data. This tool does not store any of your data beyond this current session. Images will be embedded into the .json file.
Define the languages your exhibit will support.
For each point of interest, you can add a version of the content in each language listed here. Use the language selector in the bottom right corner of the map to change the language that you are editing in. Content is not automatically translated.
Base layers control the appearance of the base map, such as a street view or satellite view. We've included a default street and satellite layer that are free to use.
Additional options for base layers can be found here. This is not an exhaustive list, and most map providers provide a format that can be utilized. Make sure to follow any licensing restrictions.
Zoom levels control how far a user can zoom into or out of the map.
A minimum zoom level is how far out of the map users can zoom. This is automatically calculated based on the bounds you just set.
The maximum zoom level is how far into your map you want users to zoom. The suggested level is going to be what the most zoomed in the maps base layers support.
Zoom in or out to change the maximum zoom level.
Next you will create a bounding box around the points that you defined.
Users will only be able to view the area that you select, and the map will use this bounding box to calculate how far out to allow users to zoom
Make sure to add some padding around the edges to ensure that all your points will be visible.
Define a custom image to use to mark this point.
A square image will work best, Images will be downsized to a max of 41x41 pixels
